Maximizing Clay: Best Resources for Learning the Platform

Hi everyone, I’ve been using Clay for a couple of months now, but I haven’t really taken the time to learn all of its capabilities. Over the next month or two, I want to make a concerted effort to dive deep and really understand what it can do so I can start getting the full value from it. My company has seen success with personalized, handcrafted cold emails in various forms, but I’m looking to take that to the next level and scale it effectively through Clay. My question is — what’s the best way to truly learn Clay? I’ve gone through ClayBooks and Clay University, but they seem to only scratch the surface. Are there any better resources or communities that have helped you master the platform?

Question: What data points are you personalizing those cold emails with? You can automate this with Clay and Claygents. Best way to truly learn Clay is to just start using it for anything and everything. I personally found a Udemy course that was extremely helpful: https://www.udemy.com/course/master-clay-for-b2b-lead-generation-and-automation/ I am not affiliated. Another mental model that helped me was thinking: What public data points can I leverage for my account research, account qualification, and signals at scale? This is an area Clay shines.

Hey John, absolutely join the Clay 101 Cohort to ensure you’ve got the fundamentals down. From there, you can join the next AI cohort. The learning and community are both really strong.

@Lindsey Fletcher What is the learning style for Clay cohorts? I have a full-time job and don't necessarily have a ton of time for scheduled classes.

Totally get that! The cohort format is flexible and designed to fit around a full-time schedule. Each assignment comes with quick videos and everything you need to get started, and you can work through it whenever it fits your schedule. Plus, there are optional live Office Hours if you want extra support or to connect with others. It’s self-paced, and the community aspect makes it easy to learn by doing and seeing how others approach their builds. Definitely doable alongside a full-time job!

Hey John, congrats on the leap into tech, that’s awesome! Totally agree on what you said about GTM engineering. While I’d love to chat, I’m still pretty new to RevOps and Clay myself, so I might not be the best person for that convo. You should definitely connect with Willy H. or Ketan A. - these guys are awesome and could likely help you think through the best approach for automating outbound.

Hey John -- for learning I think that what Laz G. & Lindsey F. are suggesting are sound ways to approach learning Clay. There will always be a time commitment to learning these paths unfortunately. I would say 3-6 months to get proficient in Clay~ (this means AI, formulas, 3rd party enrichment api keys to maximize credits, amongst all the other cool nitty gritty things you could accomplish). All accessible, and mostly free learning. Outside of that, I do offer companies training to get 1-1 time to learn how to stand up your GTM motions. Think of it as a tutor to help you get enabled quickly (and also help to get architecture to your liking going). LMK if that's of interest.

Thanks for the tag Lindsey F., & echoing the sentiment that Willy & Lindsey shared, best way to learn is to join the Clay cohorts as a way to leverage clay credits you receive to build the fundamental knowledge on how to use Clay. Given your company is already running outbound (perhaps currently in a manual way), the quickest method for you to put your skills to use would be to attempt replicating your company’s current workflow within clay. You’ll see how much faster you’re able to Find, enrich, transform and export the data to other integrations/tools and truly create an outbound motion. The C101 cohorts do walk through exercises that help you learn the building blocks and additional AI cohorts would support your personalization and how to leverage AI to craft strong campaigns that scale.
