Hey people There are a lot of GTM Engineer jobs in the market but I think most of them need senior level people with around 3+ years of experience... thus it is difficult for people with 1+ year experience to get a decent change or jump.Is it something only I am experiencing or someone else too have felt this? Also What is the average retainer full time to ask from a company or agency?
I would advise that you look less at the experience and more at the "experience" that a candidate can provide. I personally feel that some of the best GTM engineers I know have been utilizing the system for less than a year. It really depends on how much you are familiar with the different systems, your mindset, building some kind of portfolio, and then there is a bit of networking involved.
As a general career advice (heard this from a recruiter), jobs often list an extreme ideal candidate that might not even exist practically. For example, you might be considered for a role if you fit 70-80% of the job description, even if you don't meet the experience requirement. Always look out for roles which you feel like you can do, and be confident. Cheers!
Most often what people are looking for is evidence of strategic thinking, understanding of process, and ability to build systems. If they're asking for 3+ years experience in tools then they are silly and missing the point. When pitching yourself as in-house/ freelancer/ agency you focus on what value you can bring relative their their business goals & vision + current challenges/ bottlenecks + expansions opportunities. What they should be looking for from you is a high-level articulation of how you'd approach these 3 through your strategic approach + process + systems.
