I’m curious what everyone uses as a primary or foundation source for company search by basic attributes such as industries, company size, revenue, etc. Do most of you use Clay’s default Find Companies or start with a different data source and then enrich and segment? Assume the goals is first pass at mapping TAM and ICP fit accounts based on basic attributes above as the first step.
We see most teams start with a broad company source, then enrich inside Clay. The issue usually is not data coverage but workflow design after the first pass. How are you handling the transition from TAM mapping to active routing once replies start coming in? Are you tagging ICP fit only at the account level or combining it with reply intent before pushing into CRM?
Most advanced users don’t rely solely on Clay’s default “Find Companies.” Best practice for TAM + ICP mapping: 1. Start with a strong primary dataset (Apollo, Clearbit, Crunchbase, etc.) for structured filters: Industry Headcount Revenue Location 2. Import into Clay → then enrich + segment further (growth signals, tech stack, hiring, etc.). Clay’s Find Companies is solid for quick builds, but for serious TAM mapping, most teams:
Use an external source for the initial universe → use Clay for enrichment, refinement, and qualification.
That gives you better control and coverage.
