Hey all, looking for best practice on deduping Clay people results against HubSpot contacts before spending enrichment credits. Use case:
I want to source net-new contacts in Clay
I do not want to enrich people who are already contacts in HubSpot
I do not have email at the start, so email-based HubSpot lookup is not useful as a first step
What I’ve found so far:
HubSpot contact lookup seems to want email
Exclude companies is not right because I still want to find new people at companies already in HubSpot
My problem is person-level dedupe, not account-level dedupe
Question: How are people handling this in Clay?
Exclude people using a HubSpot-imported table with LinkedIn URLs?
Name + company matching?
Some other workflow before email waterfall?
Would love to know the most credit-efficient and reliable setup.
Hey Pranali P., it's mandatory for members to add their full names and a profile picture to their Slack profile (pets or AI-generated portraits also work). The community feels more intimate and less anonymous when one knows who they are engaging with so will be great if you can update your profile here. Thanks in advance! 🤝
Hey Pranali P. While we use Salesforce instead of HubSpot, I ran into a similar challenge and here's the workflow that solved it for us:
Export existing contacts from your CRM — pull a CSV of all contacts already associated with the accounts you want to target and import them into Clay as a baseline.
Build two separate Clay tables for net new contact sourcing:
One that finds contacts using the company website
One that finds contacts using LinkedIn profiles
Then enrich those net new contacts for email and phone number.
Reconcile all three sources — your CRM export, the website-sourced contacts, and the LinkedIn-sourced contacts — and run Clay's deep dedup function to ensure each individual only appears once across all three.
This way you're only enriching and reaching out to net new contacts that don't already exist in your CRM, without needing emails as a starting point. Happy to walk you through the setup if helpful!
