GDPR Compliance and Challenges for B2B Cold Emailing in Germany

Does anyone know/have experience around GDPR issues with B2B cold email in Germany? Is this a genuine blocker (or do people do it anyways) - if it is, any workarounds? (heard potentially B2B outreach is often permitted under "Legitimate Interest" if the product is relevant to the recipient's job role)
