I'm pretty skeptical about the value of personalized outreach to cold contacts, both now and especially in the coming few years as more people understand AI capabilities. If someone doesn't know me, I don't care if they have a snippet in an email about where I went to school or some other recent life event. I will assume it's AI-generated and actually find it more disingenuous/spammy than if they had just sent a straightforward message about what they are pitching, with no personalization. Explain why I'm wrong.
if you can get to know the exact time your prospect brushes their teeths, that could be a valuable personalization. Ross C.
i mean not everyone can find that out
Ross C. I dont think you're wrong. To me, the real value is in terms of qualifying and enriching the right contacts for personalized outreach. So instead of using AI to find 1000 contacts for your email list, you use AI to find 1000 contacts and filter it down the the 10 that are actually worth your time.
Totally get the value of AI for finding and enriching contacts, just don't see value to AI-generated "personalizations" -- if anything people might find it a little weird how much you know about them. So if I knew who brushed their teeth at noon every day at the office, I might try to sell them a handy workplace-appropriate bag that had lots of nice little compartments for toiletries, but I wouldn't add a personalization touch in the email "Hey I've discovered you brush your teeth midday, so I thought you might like..." 🙂
Hey Ross C. it’s about timing, context and relevancy. Think about it this way: From 100 Emails/DMs some get’s per month, if you’re message gets opened, simply because it feels relevant to the receiver, you increase your chances drastically. Instantly just released this report, showing that most outreach is basically trash and is/will get filtered out before messages are even opened https://instantly.ai/cold-email-benchmark-report-2026 So in 2026 it’s - imo - about increasing timing, context and relevancy, so that someone takes the time to open and read what you say. Will they convert straight away? Probably not. Will they think about it? Yes. But if your message is not even opened, you basically had 0 impact on the prospect. Gathering all the info, finding the perfect timing, and the right conversation starter I think is the power of AI.
