I’m currently trying to use company fundraising as a contextual signal, but the “latest funding round” enrichment (Crunchbase) is expensive and has a low signal-to-cost ratio for SMEs (many companies are matched but have 0 funding).
Are there alternative enrichments or data sources in Clay that can be used to approximate recent fundraising activity more efficiently?
Specifically, I’m looking for:
Enrichments that are cheaper or more selective than Crunchbase funding
Signals that indicate recent capital injection or financial events (e.g. grants, public announcements, accelerators, press mentions)
Event-based or lightweight signals that work better as context, not continuous tracking
If no better native enrichment exists, are there recommended workarounds (e.g. web search–based enrichments, news scraping, keyword detection) to flag recent fundraising without incurring high costs?
The goal is not precise funding amounts, but a low-cost binary signal indicating whether “something financial likely happened recently.”
