Hi Clay Support, how can I ensure that claygent metadata such as "confidence" and "reasoning" are included? Sometimes they are included automatically but sometimes they are not and I do not know why.
To ensure Claygent metadata like reasoning is included:
When setting up a Claygent column, after mapping inputs and selecting a model, add context columns such as reasoning or source links to capture how Claygent reached its result.
This must be manually enabled during configuration—metadata isn’t always included by default.
Run a test on 10 rows first to verify the metadata appears as expected.
Auto-update settings can help maintain consistency for new rows [1].
Is that what you were looking for?
How do I enable this during configuration?
To enable Claygent metadata like confidence and reasoning during configuration:
After setting up your Claygent prompt and mapping inputs, look for the option to add context columns such as reasoning or confidence.
These are optional fields you can include when defining your output columns.
For example, when classifying data, you can explicitly add a confidence field to see how certain Claygent is about each result [1].
Similarly, during company or people enrichment, you can choose to add reasoning or source links to understand how Claygent reached its conclusion [2].
Always test on 10 rows first to confirm the metadata appears as expected.
Did that answer your question?
No

Hey Maximilian! Thank you for reaching out. Do you mind sending the link (url) to the table so we can take a look?
Hey Andrew Q. thanks for helping, this is the table: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/424789/workbooks/wb_0t43598QMqfBPemaDU8/tables/t_0t435ch7GA2p6VMqgCC/views/gv_0t435chzHnX8As6r3Fv However, I am wondering on how this generally works. Sometimes I create a claygent and it automatically returns steps taken, confidence and reasoning while in other times it just returns the mere properties I requested
Hey Maximilian-- I reviewed your table and it appears that all of your Claygent runs include both the Confidence and Reasoning metadata fields. From what I understand, these are included by default. That said, I’ll take a closer look to confirm and will follow up with a definitive answer soon.
In the meantime, if you recall any specific table that was missing this metadata, could you please share the link? It would help me compare and better understand the issue.
Thank you for your patience and for working through this with me!

Hey Andrew Q. thanks for having a look! The issue is that I had to explicitly include them for some claygent prompts while others are configured without any mention of this metadata but return it automatically
Does it have to do something with using web search claygent vs. content modification (offline) claygent?
Hello Maximilian! Thanks for reaching out! Confidence and reasoning will not show up if you use the content creation usecase. That is because there is no research involved. Can you direct me to a current column which should be is not showing the confidence and reasoning fields?
