i have a list of 40,000 companies and need to see if they were acquired. the most common example is that when i enrich a company, it's very obvious that the enriched company has acquired the original company in my list. however, sometimes, the enriched company name is different from the original company in my list due to an acronym, or a suffix that is different, but the company has not been acquired. what is the best enrichment option for this?
how do i clean the company domain name? currently, some have https:// as a prefix, some have www. in front, but i need to clean this so it's just the website and .com
Hey Aaron, we’ve tackled similar use cases with large datasets like that. A good approach is to combine fuzzy matching on company names with enrichment sources that flag parent or acquired entities, then layer logic to validate based on domain or ownership metadata. We’ve built automations that handle these edge cases pretty cleanly — happy to share the workflow or help you set it up. – Sourabh linkedin.com/in/sourabh85 panopticanalytics.com
Thanks for sharing your approach, Sourabh! For fuzzy matching on company names, you can use our "Normalize Company Names" function in the enrichment panel under "Tools." This removes legal suffixes and prefixes, turning "Panamax Inc." into "Panamax" for cleaner matching. [1]
This creates consistent company names that work better with your fuzzy matching logic and validation workflows.
