Does Response Timeout in HTTP Column Have a Limit?

Question: does the "Response timeout (ms)" field in an HTTP column actually work? I tried setting it at an arbitrarily high value (1 million ms) and am still getting some timeouts. Not sure if its a client/server thing or if that field has some hard limit that overrides whatever I input there.
