We use Clay for specific actions, but we are using Clearbit to maintain firmographics in Salesforce. I would like to use Clay for both, but can't quite think through the setup to maintain 10K account firmographics without A) burning through credits for no reason, and B) processing that many accounts at a time. Do other use Clay for keeping basic firmographics up to date in their CRM? Or are you using a more purpose built tool for this?
Yes, many teams use Clay for CRM firmographics maintenance! We have Bulk Enrichment specifically for this - it handles millions of Salesforce records efficiently. [1]
For your 10K accounts, you can:
Import directly from Salesforce
Set up automated enrichments that only run when data changes
Use our 2-way sync to keep everything current without manual processing [2]
Companies like Klaviyo and Figma use this exact setup for millions of records. The key is setting up enrichment triggers strategically rather than bulk processing everything at once.

how do we trigger updates? Clearbit works by updating our accounts on a nightly basis if there is a change on the related account from their end. Can clay do it similarly?
Yes! Clay can automatically update your Salesforce accounts similarly to Clearbit. By default, Clay syncs Salesforce imports every 24 hours - when new records or updates occur, this triggers enrichment runs automatically. [1]
To enable this, toggle on auto-update in your Salesforce integration settings, or set up scheduled sources/columns at your preferred frequency. [4]
Was that helpful?
But that update is if something changes on our side, not when the background information, like the number of employees changes on the Clay side right?
You're correct - the 24-hour sync only triggers when records change on your Salesforce side, not when underlying data (like employee count) changes in Clay's data sources. [1]
For automatic updates when background firmographic data changes, you'd need to set up Scheduling. This lets you refresh enrichment columns on daily, weekly, or monthly frequencies - so employee counts, company news, and other firmographics stay current automatically.
You can also create dynamic refresh strategies where Clay only re-enriches accounts that haven't been updated within your specified timeframe, which helps manage credits efficiently. [2]
