Optimizing CSV for Clay: Essential Data Points for Enrichment

·
·

Hi everyone, I've conducted research to identify target companies that align with my ideal customer profile, and I'm building a CSV to import into Clay for enrichment. My goal is to enhance company data in Clay and then use its features to find relevant contacts. My Company Research: I've identified a set of target companies and gathered some basic information on each. Now, I'm focused on structuring my CSV for optimal enrichment and contact discovery within Clay. Current CSV Columns: My CSV currently includes basic identifiers for each company:

  • Company Name

  • Company Website

  • Company LinkedIn

  • Company Location

Questions:

  • What additional company-level data points should I include in my CSV that Clay can effectively enrich? I'm starting with basic identifiers, but I'm unsure what other fields would be valuable to include at this stage. For example, would it be helpful to include industry codes, estimated employee counts, or social media handles?

  • Any suggestions for organizing and formatting my CSV to maximize the effectiveness of Clay's enrichment features?

Goal: I want to leverage Clay's enrichment features to gain a deeper understanding of each company, including details like [mention specific enrichments, e.g., technology used, financial information, news updates, social media activity]. This enriched data will then be used to identify and engage with relevant contacts at these companies using Clay's built-in tools. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Jacek, thank you for reaching out! 👋 It sounds like you’re already on the right path by including those basic company identifiers in your CSV. When deciding what else to add, it’s key to start with the types of insights you want to pull from Clay. For example, if you plan to uncover a company’s funding stage, social media presence, or relevant news updates, you’ll want to make sure you have the right data to power those enrichments. For instance, to find the tech stack for a company, you need to have the company domain. Different enrichments often require different setup inputs, so being clear on what data you want to uncover will help you decide which columns to include in your CSV. That said, the data you already have (particularly the company name, domain, and LinkedIn) is enough to run all the company-level enrichments in Clay. Once you import your CSV, you can use the Find People feature to find relevant leads at these companies based on criteria like job title, location, and more. For a detailed walkthrough on how to use this feature, please check out our guide here. It covers how to define your search parameters, limit your results, and import new leads into Clay—all at no cost! If you have any additional questions, feel free to let me know—I’d be happy to help! 😁
