I have a table with inputs from google maps search - for some reason I’m noticing that rows are dissapearing that I’ve edited in the past. I’m using it as a cold calling spreadsheet and updating info after I’ve made a call. Here is the link to the table: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/476916/workbooks/wb_0t4waqk46SDMdk5Zhzj/tables/t_0t4waujtdrpG84Unpqx/views/gv_0t4waukF4fMERtAQRYz
Rows may disappear from your Clay table because Clay does not track row history or deletions, and if a table re-runs or auto-update/auto-dedupe is enabled, data can be overwritten or removed without a way to recover it. To prevent this:
Disable auto-update: This stops the table from automatically re-running and potentially overwriting your edits. Go to the table name, access settings, and turn off auto-update. You can also disable auto-update for individual columns in their run settings.
Check auto-dedupe settings: If auto-dedupe is enabled, it may delete rows considered duplicates based on a selected column. Review and adjust this in your table settings.
Manual backups: Since there’s no version history, consider exporting your data regularly or using the "write to table" feature to copy important data elsewhere.
Did that answer your question?
auto-dedup and auto-update were disabled, so those don’t explain what’s happening
If rows are disappearing even with auto-update and auto-dedupe off, it could be due to manual deletion or edits by someone with access, as Clay doesn’t track row history or deletions. There’s no way to recover lost rows unless you use the “Undo” option immediately after deletion. For future safety, consider exporting your data regularly or re-importing if records go missing. If you’re in a shared workspace, reviewing team activity and permissions can help prevent accidental changes.
Did that answer your question?
It’s not actually deleting rows, it’s removing my edits into columns
If your edits to columns are being removed even with auto-update and auto-dedupe off, it could be due to column dependencies or manual re-runs. Some columns may be set to update based on changes in other columns, which can overwrite your edits if those dependencies trigger a run . Clay does not track version history, so overwritten data cannot be recovered .
To prevent this, check each column’s run settings for dependencies or conditions that might cause updates . If you’re merging columns, turning off auto-update may cause downstream columns to show stale data, but turning it on can overwrite manual edits .
For safety, regularly export your data or use the “write to table” feature to back up important info [1].
Are you using any formulas or merged columns that might be triggering these updates?
No I’m not using formulas that would explain this, the columns are not dependent on other columns
I understand this must be frustrating. I’ll connect you to a human agent who can assist you further with this issue.

Here Dave thanks for reaching out, taking a look here.
Where in particular are these edits missing Dave? As in in which rows.
I actually don’t know, I was just looking through the ‘outcomes’ column and I know that there are somewhere between 15-20 rows that should have an outcome tag in them, but don’t seem to (though I can’t say which rows). Basically I was going through and updating some rows today and the math wasn’t adding up after I made the updates
Hey Dave- which column are you referring to? Have your notes in the "Notes" column disappeared, or have the rows themselves disappeared. Regardless, we aren't able to access table history and revert back to the original output, so the workaround here would be to recreate the source. Let me know if you have any other questions!
