Mapping table between Clay <> Hubspot industry classifications
Create a new Hubspot Custom object field for Industry to just anchor on Clay ones
Use Clay's AI to create custom industry classifications that map HubSpot's broad categories to your specific needs. Standard industry categories from HubSpot are often too broad—Nike and Ulta Beauty both get labeled as "Retail" instead of their actual industries.
Set up an AI formula in Clay that takes HubSpot industry data and maps it to your custom industry list using a prompt like: "Map this industry value to our custom list and return only the best match." This creates an automated, evergreen mapping that requires no maintenance.

Jeffrey Z. I would definitely create a new custom field called 'industry classification (clay)' or something similar. But instead of giving Claygent free reign on classifying the industry in any way possible, I would decide on a few selected key industries or sub-industries, and get AI to determine the best one to put them in. So in the future, if you have a campaign that's targeted to a certain industry, it's easier to filter the list of companies
Exactly! Create a custom AI formula that maps companies to your predefined industry list. Use a prompt like: "Map this industry value to our custom list and select the best match. Only return values from the list. If no reasonable match exists, select 'Other'."
Define 5-6 specific industry categories with clear descriptions and examples for each category. This creates an automated, evergreen mapping system that requires no maintenance and ensures consistent filtering for future campaigns.
Did that help clarify your approach?
