Hi everyone! I am doing Assignment 2 in Clay, but I get this error: Here is my workbook: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/670253/workbooks/wb_0szw5cqAhCushyQwHyS/tables/t_0szw5f4h5h3RujPuQt5/views/gv_0szw5f4cg8Yr7TupgAY And here is a video explanation: https://www.loom.com/share/1867799764fd4307beae9ea9e1fcee6a?sid=81895c7a-ce11-49ad-9567-45fc51ae03f4 Also, it seems I have to run a waterfall step to be able to get the variables, like the company domain, that I need for the next step. Is that the case or did I overlook something?
Yes, you're correct! You need to run waterfall enrichments to get essential data like company domain before proceeding to subsequent steps. For company enrichments, your "corner pieces" are Company Domain and Company LinkedIn Profile URL - these are the key identifiers that enable all other enrichments. Waterfalls require these inputs to function properly. For example, funding stage waterfalls need Company Domain as the required input. Once you have your corner pieces through initial waterfall steps, you can use any other company enrichment waterfall to get additional data you need. This sequential approach is by design - first establish your foundational data points, then build upon them with additional enrichments.
Ok, I see. That is good to know, thank you. I have my corner pieces (The name of the person and the company domain), but I get that error when I use FindMyMail. Why is that? I want to do the assignment.
The Findymail "Find Work Email" action requires Full Name and Company Domain as inputs, which matches your corner pieces. The setup involves selecting your Findymail account (Clay-managed or your own key), then entering the Full Name and Company Domain columns to receive the work email output. Without seeing the specific error message, common issues could be related to data formatting, missing values in your input columns, or account configuration. What specific error message are you seeing when you run the Findymail enrichment?
I see the error "Failed to update waterfall"
I sent you a video too. Here: https://www.loom.com/share/1867799764fd4307beae9ea9e1fcee6a?sid=9f820be1-25f0-4a07-9c68-b67a0f182e9d
The "Failed to update waterfall" error with Findymail typically occurs due to input data issues. For the Find Work Email action, ensure your Full Name and Company Domain columns contain properly formatted data without missing values. Check that: ** Full Name column has complete names (first and last) ** Company Domain column contains valid domains (e.g., "company.com" not full URLs) * No empty cells in required input columns Try running the enrichment on a single row first to isolate the issue. If the error persists, the problem may be with your Findymail account configuration or data formatting.
I did include those items. I am not sure why this is not working. It has all required inputs. Here is the workbook: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/670253/workbooks/wb_0szw5cqAhCushyQwHyS/tables/t_0szw5f4h5h3RujPuQt5/views/gv_0szw5f4cg8Yr7TupgAY
Heyy, I would recommend using a find work email waterfall to find those emails rather using a custom waterfall and combining the find domain and find work email into one waterfall

Ok, I found that and submitted the workbook. Thank you! I would like to still understand why the custom waterfall did not work.
It didn't work because you missed to specify the output of the waterfall for FindyMail. Another thing to keep in mind is that waterfalls are used to find same type of data and not different. So adding multiple providers who all find email/mobile number/linkedin url are good examples of waterfalls. Combining different data points into one is not a good idea because if the first step in waterfall works correctly then the final output of the waterfall would be that and your second step would never get triggered.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks!
