Hi, we're trying to setup website tracking for Clay, but these instructions don't work. I was hoping to use Google Tag Manager, as we have a Wordpress website. 🤞 cc Celeste Kwan
Our website tracking doesn't use Google Tag Manager. Instead, you'll need to install our tracking snippet directly on your WordPress site.
Here's how to set it up:
1. Go to your account name → Settings → Website tracking
2. Click Add connection and give it a unique name
3. Copy the tracking snippet code
4. Install this code before the closing </body>
tag on all pages of your website
The snippet loads asynchronously so it won't affect your page loading time. Once installed, you can configure de-anonymization providers and set up filters as needed.
Clay tracking on WordPress sites using Google Tag Manager before, so happy to help GTM is the right way to go make sure the tracking snippet is in the <head> tag via GTM, and that the trigger fires on all pages also double-check if any cookie consent tools are blocking it
Thanks for the GTM guidance! Just to clarify - our documentation recommends installing the tracking snippet before the closing </body>
tag on all pages rather than in the <head>
tag.
You're absolutely right about ensuring the trigger fires on all pages and checking for cookie consent tool interference - those are key troubleshooting steps for proper tracking functionality.
Thanks Abdul Sa. (Clay Expert). My problem is that despite being an admin, we can't find the tracking snippet in Clay to install. The above instructions don't show us the website tracking code.
Hi Rubina - thanks so much for reaching out and happy to help here. To find the tracking snippet, you have to first create a connection under "Website Tracking" within your account settings. I recorded a short demo to show you how to navigate to this:
Once you've done this, you can copy the tracking code, and this is the code you will need to install via Google Tag Manager.
Let me know if that makes sense or if you're having issues seeing this on your end.
Hi Rubina - apologies for the confusion, this feature is not live currently. As a workaround, Clay has an HTTP API enrichment column that allows you to connect to virtually any endpoint. You could do the following: ** Set up your existing WordPress/GTM tracking to send data to a webhook ** Use Clay's HTTP API to pull that data into your workflows
