Seeking Advice on Breaking into a GTM Engineering Role from a Non-Technical Background

Hey everyone! I'm Ved, based in London. Coming from a Business Development background in India, now teaching myself GTM Engineering, built a Clay signal-detection system across 30 UK SaaS companies and a working n8n → HubSpot pipeline with SLA automation, also HubSpot certified. Where I could really use this community's advice: I'm trying to figure out the best next steps to actually break into a GTM Engineering role, whether that's more project work to build a portfolio, specific skills I should prioritize (my n8n is still fairly junior compared to my Clay work), or how people here actually landed their first GTM Eng role coming from a non-technical background. If anyone's been through a similar transition, I'd love to hear how you approached it, or just get pointed toward mistakes to avoid.

Hey Ved - based on what you are saying, you are already doing GTM automations. I recommend checking workflows.io and build some of the workflows given there as portfolio samples. See if you can add your own experience and improve these even further. Share these learnings on LinkedIn to build traction and social proof.

Btw, majority of the GTMEs are non technical folks :) These are the people who understand the bottlenecks in a sales/marketing processes, knows that these can be fixes with the modern tech stack.

Thanks a lot Bharat, this is really helpful! Going to check out workflows.io this week and see what I can rebuild and improve on with my own data. Good point on the non-technical thing too, that's reassuring to hear. Will start sharing the build process on LinkedIn as I go rather than just posting finished results, appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction
