Best Ways to Analyze Salesforce Usage: Native vs API Solutions

Any advice on the best way to work out Salesforce usage either natively or through API? I see HG Insights there which is probably a good vendor but seeing if anyone has done this before

I want to see if they use Salesforce as their CRM for sales and CPQ if possible? It won't be website based the tag for it
