Is there a way to identify "industry" for a company without using Clay credits? Right now the only solution I see is using Claygent or by enriching the company (which also uses clay credits or API key)? I have company name and company domain to use as inputs.
Also.. Gemini doesn't appear in the list of models when selecting web research.
I believe Gemini isn't supported yet for web research.
Hi Doug, thanks for reaching out. Taking a look at this now.
Running a default company search in Table Sources should add a primary industry data point to your list of companies. https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1235439760/63ebaa882b128a1957d78536d5bc/CleanShot+2024-10-31+at+11_46_25%402x.png?expires=1730391300&signature=2f6542259c3cc3c963b397aef53f670a02c6ef97401bbdef69b5e2ac09ebc301&req=dSIkE819lIZZWfMW1HO4zU18AsY8PXV08ANbYFIZObULrlNbM44iXAQC9MdL%0AyCed%0A This is fully free!
Hmm. When I click compare models it shows up. What is I just used a Gemini enrichment and through the website address in as a prompt?
To categorize industries for existing companies where you have the company name and domain, a cost-effective option is to use the Serper.dev API to perform a Google search, then apply formulas to filter and analyze the results.
That could work. I also like the idea of doing it using the find companies to avoid having to use another service. I'm just not sure how accurate it will be and I see your screenshot has a blank result as well. I'll have to run some tests.
Appreciate all the sugestions!
Happy to help here let me know if we can support you with anything else!
Is it true that Gemini models don't yet support web scraping?
All foundational models we integrate with, when not run through Claygent, do not function as web scraping agents and therefore won’t retrieve live data.
Hello Doug! Not sure if Gemini in particular doesn't support web scraping. On our end, it is not available to use with Claygent yet: https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1235554014/95527ca6bb2ba325541d1db3de5b/CleanShot+2024-10-31+at+10_10_50%402x.png?expires=1730396700&signature=c56cb2824e77d5fd46d0693aaf76353e8f985b17060fe8d4267faea1704661d7&req=dSIkE8x7mYFeXfMW1HO4zR%2B%2B12qyS2DLwedUBOlxWmVffcAGtnCfcq1srQfL%0AeVKx%0A I just tried a simple scraping task on some Gemini enrichments and I think it is possible they now support web scraping: https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1235558943/27487fa46b7761f106003c4698d6/CleanShot+2024-10-31+at+10_14_28%402x.png?expires=1730396700&signature=f6cd785e9d79016867437288a8e62110aea6831d3cef0695cf994f66e10e5081&req=dSIkE8x7lYhbWvMW1HO4zYjIClOnB%2FSQePxEQM62N5WWFZKyJM%2FocN6ij1K1%0ACKjP%0A I recommend trying to prompt a few cells to scrape the websites in question and test out the results.
Thank you

The "Write to Table" function may come in handy here. Check out "Use Case #2" on this page, about halfway down. https://www.clay.com/university/lesson/write-to-table-integration-overview It's one way to copy rows from one table to another, without the tedium of export/import.

I'll try it, but I think this will only write the exact values from the original table to the other table that I chose to move over. I don't think I can append the data with new data that pulls in from the Find Companies Source. These companies didn't come from the Find Companies Source originally, they were added via API.
How am I supposed to use a lookup if the data is only in one table? It requires me to cross-reference values across tables. To clarify, I have a list of company names that I added to Table 1 through API. It's a single column. They are not enriched. I want to find the "Primary Industry" for each of these companies without using Clay credits. You told me that when creating a new table using the Find Companies source, "Primary Industry" is one of the included fields. However, I am unable to Find Companies based on a list of company names I have existing in another table. I created Table 2 as a completely blank table. There's no way for me to use a lookup to reference data in Table 1 since there are no values in Table 2 to match up to those in Table 1.
Got it. Yeah I was trying to find a way to get the industry given input company name and company domain -- that doesn't use Clay credits. Kindly let me know if you have any other ideas.
