Is it possible to set some custom variables that I can reference when writing formulas so I don't have write hardcoded values everywhere? And, when I change the value of the variable it changes the values used in formulas accordingly?
While Clay doesn't have a specific feature for custom variables, you can use AI formulas to achieve similar functionality. AI formulas allow you to generate custom code in your table to format, clean, and reshape data as needed. For dynamic referencing, you can use fields from other columns in your formulas. This allows you to reference and insert data like a contact's name, location, or company into formulas, prompts, or message drafts. By using these dynamic references, you can create formulas that automatically update when the referenced data changes, similar to how custom variables would work.
Yes, but this dynamic references only work for the same row. If I could keep my variables in a dedicated column, and reference exact cell in my formulas, that would be helpful. I don't believe how a software like Clay doesn't have most basic features!
While Clay doesn't have a built-in feature for custom variables across rows, you can use AI formulas to achieve similar functionality. Here's how: 1. Create a dedicated column for your "variables". 2. Use AI formulas to reference these values in other columns. 3. When creating a formula, use "/" to access the menu and reference data from your variable column. For example, you could set up a column called "Variables" with specific values, then reference those in your formulas using dynamic data referencing. AI formulas are a powerful, credit-free way to generate custom code in your table for formatting, cleaning, and reshaping data. This approach allows you to create a system similar to custom variables, updating automatically when referenced values change. Hey there Aminul thanks for reaching out, unfortunately this currently is not possible to do within Clay at the moment, however thanks for your feedback, I'll relay this to our product owners. Any additional context is welcome, so we can keep your situation in mind as we build out the roadmap.
LuisArturo My client wants to filter companies by company size before enrichment, so that only relevant ones get enriched. Currently I've hard-coded formulas to achieve this. But the client wants it to be dynamic so he can easily update the size criteria himself in the future, without touching any code or without developer intervention. So, due to this any many other limitations in Clay, I'm having trouble satisfying my client who wants a complete automated Apify + Clay lead generation system. Another issue we’ve faced is the “Time out” error. When running an Apify Actor via Clay for larger runs. Clay times out before the Apify scraper finishes, even if Apify completes successfully later. And, there's currently no way to increase this time out duration on Clay. This forces the client to manually import results, defeating the point of automation. Honestly, for the price Clay charges, the lack of flexibility and limitations are hard to justify. I hope you can escalate this feedback to the owners and developers. Thank you.
