Best Practices for Finding Multiple Contacts at the Same Account

·
·

Hey Clay team 👋 I need some help sense checking a table I'm in the process of building. The goal of the table is to create a list of accounts + contacts (4-5) for our sales team to conduct outbound to. Instead of starting with an account search, I've decided it's actually more desirable to start with a contact search through SalesNav to find the right accounts to speak to. I'm getting stuck at the point of creating multiple contacts once the first contact is found... e.g. We've got one contact who is the VP of Operations - what's the best practice to generate more contacts for the same account with different roles?

Hey Dominic! Thanks for reaching out. Just to confirm, you're looking to create a sales nav search to find multiple contacts per company? In Sales Nav the best workaround is likely including all the job titles you're searching for in the filter. In Clay, you can use the find people search to combine a company & people search. That is, you'll be able to add company & people filters in a single search and set a limit per company. This should help with adding multiple contacts per company. I made a quick recording showing how to do this here: https://share.cleanshot.com/NKm9DdXF However, if you'd prefer to run the search in Sales Nav, you'll either need to add all the job titles being searched for in the initial search or create a new search based on the companies that returned a result for VP of Operations. The limitation here would be that, the second search will be seen as a custom search, based on saved list and those search types can't be imported through the integration. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you Daniela for this detailed response! I wonder if it's possible to create an IF statement in the Clay search to populate more contacts as rows 🤔 IF VP of Operations exists THEN find CEO, COO, Operations Manager, etc... Would this be possible? Appreciate the help here as I test my luck 🙏

Hey there Dominic thanks for reaching out, currently our Clay searches do not have the ability to make use of an IF statement when searching for leads. The best alternative here would be to use multiple Find Employees by Criteria integrations in a table and give each of them a conditional formula to only run if the previous one was able to find a result. So if the first integration was able to find the VP of Operations, then the integration that searches for the CEO can run and so on. https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1170527943/38e3e7b37925175df8ef574d/image.png?expires=1725581700&signature=b54171689865481b729e1efa63bf8d749910f25e722da466e8bc589b17ddcad7&req=dSEgFsx8mohbWvMW1HO4zWsWCGmWb1YIErHmAZj7hLmtEGD4FJmaIt%2B%2BIjd%2F%0AdMyp%0A

Thanks LuisArturo! This is very helpful, but would this be to populate more columns or rows? I'm looking for a way to create more rows of contacts based on a conditional formula, like you've pointed out here 🙌

This solution above would create more columns in this instance as the "Find Contacts at Company" feature is currently unable to to take in conditional formulas a previously mentioned. However you could then use a Write to Table to get the results from these integration into their own row in a different table. So first to start off you would run each integration of "Find Contacts at Company", then once all of the columns have finished running or not running if they did not meet the conditional formula requirement. You would then use a Write To Table integration on the results of each search to enter them into rows in another table. https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1170533597/957e091e5ec0d1088b48c5b2/image.png?expires=1725582600&signature=81bd0710fb7772838c18ecbda7c2ebee42341b1ab98e8b60db046c09c080f4a6&req=dSEgFsx9noRWXvMW1HO4za%2BgxLFWFGwvmhMsl5gkB4CM8XEe8JS1SzHTUIM0%0AIYx1%0A Also as a side not I included the wrong integration in the first message above, the integration I meant to use is called "Find Contacts at Company" as noted in this message.

Appreciate the help here gang! One more follow up question: I'm having trouble narrowing down the "Find Contacts at Company" roles in Clay. It's yielding pretty varied roles, even for simple searches like CEO, COO, etc... are there any alternatives, including recommended third party apps, that could plug the quality hole here? I've heard good things about Apollo, but haven't used it in the past and would need to start a subscription

Hey Dominic! Thanks for the reply. Happy to help. Can you share a bit more info about what you mean by "varied roles"? Are you getting results that don't include the job titles applied to the search. If you can share your table url (link in your browser tab), we're happy to take a look.

Thanks Daniela! Here is the table: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/34486/tables/t_xQbmNBSK9Mfo/views/gv_yFyxGZvGVnUx I was looking for CEO, COO, VP Operations (to begin with, but ideally would like to extend the search out to Director of Operations, Director of Customer Service, VP Customer Service, Director of Customer Support, VP Customer Support...) but was coming up a bit short! By short, often the CEO & COO wasn't accurate, even though these roles exist at 90% of businesses.

Hey Dominic - I know why :) That's because you searched only for " CEO,COO,Operations Manager,VP operations,Chief Technology Officer" Our searches are pretty specific, so when you search for “CEO,” it will only show people with that exact title. If someone’s title is “Chief Executive Officer,” for example, they won’t appear in that search. A helpful tip is to start broad and then work your way backward! Try previewing all the results first, and then filter out any titles you don’t want until you’re left with the ones you need. This way, you can catch all relevant roles, even if the title is written differently! 😊 Let me know if you need more guidance—I’m here to help!
