Hello! I'm struggling with formula. My goal is to copy contents of one column (column1), if it's empty, copy contents of next column (column2) all the way to column3. When I try to do it, column1 seems to be neglected. However, when I simply want to copy column1, without mentioning any other columns, it works great. Any ideas?
Hello Bart! Do you mind sending the link to the table so we can take a look? https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1171717996/ac7729f84b426e1d0358af02/image.png?expires=1730827800&signature=e1f58447bd97db7a0508396f7d918fdecf7a5a749b768b25c3886741f3e91207&req=dSEgF85%2FmohWX%2FMW1HO4zYTywSv0BJAe2BKsam%2FhVPu3rQ%3D%3D%0A
Hey there Bart thanks for reaching out, jumping in for Tomas here, just to clarify you're trying to get all of the results for domains into one column, correct?
hey George, that's correct
Hello! Thanks for reaching out. The issue here might be due to stale data in the columns. When merging columns or using formulas that depend on multiple columns, stale data can cause some columns to be ignored. You can test it yourself by clicking on the stale row, re-runing it and you'll see the data appear. Here’s how you can check for and address it: • Check for Stale Data: Double-click on any row in the table to see if there’s outdated information. • Clear Stale Data: Make sure to refresh or clear any stale data before attempting to merge or apply formulas across columns. https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1242178071/2c39aaaa464eea4a8c48c6f55a89/CleanShot+2024-11-06+at+_28hTtkgUGH%402x.png?expires=1730917800&signature=292f5b72f3570503e8fbefbfa8720a331f974f8122d0f6c12b76fc8162b3a5d1&req=dSIjFMh5lYFYWPMW1HO4zY7vfdwPejU26Trytzfi%2FUZ3pApD%2BkTJPtV7VY2K%0AqerJ%0A https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1242177331/f3b8dd2ad9bf4000034893576e67/CleanShot+2024-11-06+at+_34rtwL1l3X%402x.png?expires=1730917800&signature=0ccbbd2d4dfd5d973958baa432b50e1de26e5c2fc4b6611244d5a2552fc616ce&req=dSIjFMh5moJcWPMW1HO4zUSES6qqB2Ubo89WSYcNyWjYRcRL2McoX3BSrKDb%0A7DPL%0A This video explains more on managing stale data: Stale Data Example. Let me know if you need more help with this!
Hey Bo. This sounds like a good idea if not for the fact, that data from column that is being neglected in formula comes from me (it's not something I used clay to find or anything like that). Plus, clay recognisez it when colum is used as only variable in formula/cell (see column 'Company Domain (2)'). Issue occurs when I try to use this column with any other. Maybe you can think of some other idea, how I can merge data within this table? Needless to say, it's rather crucial for me, to make it happen
To address this, I recommend creating a new text column and a new merge column. Add your data to the new text column, and then use the merge column to link it as needed. This approach should help, although please note that the “stale” issue could still occur due to changes made to the initial setup of these columns. Here the best way would be to re-run those stale data. You can do this by turning off the table, and then ON but this will make that all the enrichment will run so you would need to add a formula to prevent this. Let me know if you’d like further assistance with setting this up or troubleshooting the issue!
Hey Bo, I want to understand concept of stale data - as far as it makes sense for data to be stale if it came from clay (or its integrations) a while ago, but how does this principle apply to data provided by myself? It feels like clay doesn't have a way to 'know' if data is stale or not
Hi there! I’d be happy to help explain stale data. Clay flags data as “stale” when it detects that data might be outdated or disconnected from its original source, whether it’s from an integration or data you input directly. This check happens automatically, but the “stale” label doesn’t distinguish between data sourced from Clay and data you provide. If you’re seeing unexpected stale data flags, a video or screenshot could help me understand and guide you further. Let me know if that works, and I’m here to assist!
**It detects stale if the data it's feeding from has been changed and that hasn't run again, not if the data was manually added or not**
Hey Bo. I still think this is not it. If clay will take data as stale, I assume it wouldn't work in any formula or anything like that. But it does work, as long as there are no other datas in formula present. Any other ideas? I'm not stoked about going manualy through over 23k records 😄
Hey there! Thanks for clarifying, and I totally get how time-consuming it would be to go through 23k records manually! 😊 Let’s take a closer look together. Here’s what I’ve observed: • The “stale data” indicator seems to be gone from your table, which might mean the issue is resolved. • I’ve created a new merge column called “Domain - Clay column (in this view),” and it appears to be working as expected. • A lot of column data has been refreshed, which is a good sign. It sounds like the data does work in formulas, if that’s the case, this means it's using refreshed data. Could you let me know if this is still an issue? Or, if possible, could you record a quick Loom video to show exactly what’s happening on your end? That way, I can provide more specific guidance. Let me know if I can help further! 😊
Hey there - just wanted to check in here to see if you needed anything else! Feel free to reply back here if you do.
We haven't heard back from you in a bit, so we're going to go ahead and close things out here - feel free to let us know if you still need something!
