Hello Clay team! We would like to understand how exactly the credit system works. We have purchased around 3000 credits on October 6th and we have approximately enriched around 1000-1500 leads max. When enriching leads we sometime face the situation when half of leads can't be enriched as there are no profiles founded. Do you utilize credits when running these leads or do you only count credits when profiles are found? We would like to understand how it works as we ran out of credits completely and we don't know how to forecast the next batch. Thank you
I think if you are not using Waterfall approach and choosing one single provider It is going to use credit even if it has no match.
What is waterfall approach?
Can you please let me know how many credits per row is used if we are generating LinkedIn Url profile? I could find relevant data for emails and no LinkedIn profile url case. Thanks
The waterfall approach in Clay refers to a method for retrieving data in which multiple data providers are sequentially queried until a match is found. in this case your credit is debited when match is found
That seems like a good approach. What do we need to do to switch to that?
for basic details like Name or Linkedin profile no credit is used unless you are going to enrich profile upon creation of table which will cost you 1credit/row and to find work email or such it depends on provider you are selecting which is about it could be 2credit/row or even 5credit/row
So we never enrich emails. Only LinkedIn profiles. So it means that we are charged per row created when writing to a new table correct?
in every case it is charged /row
to use waterfall approach you can click on a new column and choose waterfall then choose what kind of data you want. which it is email in your case after that click on add action and go ahead choose the providers you want to use. you can select multiple providers there a suggestion - use lower cost provider on top so if you already found a match at low cost you dont need to go for the provider with higher cost in waterfall query will run in sequence so just choose the provider you are comfortable with on top of the waterfall
Great suggestions here Gautam, thanks for jumping in! Hey there Sabina, as Gautam mentioned the waterfall method allows you to increase your data coverage and quality at the most affordable price. In a waterfall, you only pay for providers that return results. If an email is not found, you will not be charged. The work email waterfall will only return emails that are validated (which is occurring in hidden columns that you can unhide in your column view). If an email is found but not returned as valid, the waterfall will continue running. Here's a more detailed explanation of how this waterfall approach works: Loom Here's a guide on how Clay credits work and here's a guide on Credit Conservation in Clay. Let me know if you have any other questions! 😊
Hello, thank you for your support. Its not clear for me how to use waterfall approach when searching for LinkedIn profiles. As there is no suggestion to find through multiple vendors. Can you please explain that?
Hey Sabina! Thanks for the reply. I made a quick video showing how this works here: https://www.loom.com/share/cb8c188f221e40809bdb370af9c00127 Let me know if you have any questions!
Hi Daniela, thank you for the video it's helpful. So when we try to do enrichment and find Linkedin URL it shows that there is 1 credit used per row. And when it does not find profile it says no credits used. So we have purchased 3000 credits and have uploaded 1800 -2000 leads max. And we can't understand if it says 1 credit per row why we ran out of credits so fast.
That makes sense, Do you mind sending the link to the table so we can take a look and send you a better report to help you understand better? https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1171717996/ac7729f84b426e1d0358af02/image.png?expires=1730844900&signature=9f80381bd829989639b4478b5a7dba72f442c8a8dab4ffa19edee434626fc3cb&req=dSEgF85%2FmohWX%2FMW1HO4zYTywSv0ApMf2BKsam%2FhVPuNng%3D%3D%0A
