Challenges Integrating OpenAI API with Clay Due to Tier 2 Requirements

·
·

I cant integrate the Open AI API to Clay, because clay requires me to have a Tier 2 open AI account. However, I cant upgrade to Tier 2, the upgrade happens automatically if I reach a certain usage level at open Ai, which I cant, as I dont use Open AI that much. I use it mainly through clay. This is open ais reply: "To become eligible for Tier 2, your account must have spent at least $50 and be at least 7 days old since your first successful payment. This means that if you only use OpenAI's API through Clay (a third-party platform) and do not use the API directly in other ways, your usage is unlikely to generate enough costs to meet the $50 minimum spending requirement to qualify for Tier 2 API usage. Regrettably, there’s no alternative method at this time—usage needs to occur and be billed through your OpenAI account in order to impact your tier."

You have two options to integrate OpenAI API with Clay: 1. Use Clay-managed account: This is accessible for all models and doesn't require your own API key. You can select this option in the enrichment panel under "Model > Account". 2. Use Clay's paid plan: If you're on a paid Clay plan, you can use your own API key for models except Claygent. However, this might not solve your Tier 2 issue. Using the Clay-managed account is likely your best option, as it bypasses the need for a Tier 2 OpenAI account. This will involve credit charges (0.5 to 6 credits per use) but allows you to use the AI features without meeting OpenAI's usage requirements. Yes, there's a workaround to integrate OpenAI API with Clay without needing a Tier 2 OpenAI account. You can use the Clay-managed account option, which is accessible for all models and doesn't require your own API key. Here's how to do it: 1. In the enrichment panel, go to "Model > Account" 2. Select the Clay-managed account option This method allows you to use AI features without meeting OpenAI's usage requirements. However, it will involve credit charges (0.5 to 6 credits per use) on your Clay account. If you need more information or assistance, please request human support by clicking on "Talk to a person".

Maxim K. the work around. For Tier 2, you need to spend $50 on the OpenAI API. Therefore, $50 minus the amount you have spent on the API today and invest that amount on the API. You may have to wait a few days. Even with tier 2, you mat encounter problems. You could jump directly to Tier 3, which is $100.

Hi Maxim, if your personal OpenAI account is not at the required tier, you can use the Clay-managed key for OpenAI, which is.

And just to clarify, the "Content generation" use case will work with any tier, as long as the API key has access/can be used. To use "Claygent / web research", you will need a Tier 2 API key from OpenAI, as it supports the required TPM rates. (Clay requires 30,000 tokens per minute for content generation columns, and 450,000 TPM for Claygent.) Otherwise, OpenAI sets the rules on tiering, so as Charles recommended (thanks!), usually meeting that minimal spend will automatically upgrade you after some time. From what I understand, they may also grant that upon request, if you have already prepaid the minimum amount required.
