Troubleshooting Clay's if/else variable for email copy formatting in Smart Leads

has anyone here tried to use clay’s function for if/else variable to build email copy inside of clay and then send them to smart leads? when I do that I find that the formating of the emails is always off. referring to the spacing. how do you combat this issue?
