Clay's formula generator is struggling to get me a way of counting instances of each value in a column (i.e. the frequency). Here is what I'd like to have - is there a way to get there?
You can use lookup multiple records enrichment in the same table and it will give you a count. Formula wont work in this case since clay memory works in the rows and not in the columns. it can not count the frequency of something in the columns.
To count the frequency of values in a column using Clay's formula generator: 1. Add a new column and select "Formula" 2. In the AI Formula Generator box, describe that you want to count occurrences of items from your target column (use "/" to reference the column)The Count Occurrences feature will help you analyze and tally items in your data. You can customize the count by: ** Making it case-sensitive or case-insensitive ** Specifying a separator if working with text * Setting a limit to only show top recurring items (defaults to 99 results)This is a powerful way to extract specific insights from your data without manually counting or writing complex formulas. I apologize for the confusion, and thank you for providing that clarification about Clay's functionality.
Muhammad S. do you mind detailing what you mean?
The Lookup Multiple Rows feature allows you to scan a specific column in your table to find and count matching values. For example, if you want to count how many prospects are from the same company, you can use this feature to scan the company domain, name, or LinkedIn URL column and count the occurrences of each value. This is particularly useful when you want to: 1. Count how many times a specific value appears 2. Perform actions based on those counts 3. Find all matching records within your datasetYou can also specify whether you want the count to be case-sensitive and set limits on the number of results you want to return. To count instances of each value in a column using Clay, you can use the Lookup Multiple Rows integration along with the Count Occurrences of Items feature. Here's how: 1. Use the Lookup Multiple Rows integration to scan the column you want to count. 2. Use the Count Occurrences of Items action to tally the occurrences of each unique value. 3. You can set the action to be case-insensitive if needed, and specify a separator if your data is formatted in a specific way. 4. The results will be returned as an array, showing the count for each unique item in your column. This method allows you to efficiently count and analyze the frequency of values in your Clay table. Can you provide more details about the specific column you're working with and what type of data it contains? This will help me offer more tailored advice for your use case. Source: Count Occurrences of Items with Clay
Hey there Laurent thanks for reaching out, we do have a way to that in Clay using our Lookup Rows in other table integration. Basically you will use this integration to check the same table for every repeat of a specific value, this loom shows how we can set this up. https://www.loom.com/share/42c7f8be9bbd4ca69165e01d6377dd01
Thank you both Muhammad S. & LuisArturo - your solution seems to be what I need, however when I add the Lookup Multiple Rows enrichment, no table can be selected in the "Table to Search" field. I've tried adding my table to a workbook, with no success. Any idea why?
Hey there Laurent, Do you mind sending the link to the table so we can take a look? https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1171717996/ac7729f84b426e1d0358af02/image.png?expires=1732655700&signature=359db7cfe40e3065b70e01d800197bc25183a357142f731bcda88a57baed66d5&req=dSEgF85%2FmohWX%2FMW1HO4zYTywSn6A5IR2BKsam%2FhVPuWEw%3D%3D%0A
Hey there Laurent if you change the "Clay Account option the other account that is linked to your profile then this table will appear. https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1266915064/3f83a3b8cc4c0702bbe9262be0fd/image.png?expires=1732657500&signature=1664e9fe6929dc205a9042ae0e150bf25e8fca9ab90347e51fe27eb5b2f19093&req=dSIhEMB%2FmIFZXfMW1HO4zf4quoiDxHVaM3j2GqgHbW%2BZlMS7kHRvYvqD8oWr%0Apnlf%0A
it worked - thanks LuisArturo!
