Clay charges credits for phone enrichment even when the phone is not found
When a data provider charges us for an API call (even if no phone number is found), we charge Clay credits for that call. However, if a provider refunds us because they couldn't deliver valid data, we refund those credits to you. [1]
You can view this list to see which actions will refund credits if invalid data is returned.
Phone number enrichment can consume credits even when validation fails or the data doesn't appear, as credits are used during the enrichment process itself.
Was that helpful?
No. Can you tell us what data providers charge even if they don't return any data
I understand your concern, and I’m connecting you to a human agent who can provide detailed information on data providers and charges.
This is ridiculous to pay money for no results

we spent 75,000 credits to get 4,600 phone numbers - this is ridiculous
Why APIs charges for now result? Why it's not explicitly saying?
Did you use the waterfall for this?
yes
There is different price for different providers. Some charge 5 credits and some charge 25credits for one mobile number in some cases. So depending on what you are optimizing for, you might have to adjust the providers in the waterfall.
yes, my concern that they charge for no result
Do you mind sharing the screenshot?
Hi Vik - thanks so much for reaching out. You can be assured that if the waterfall runs and it doesn't find any results, the charge will be refunded:
