Hey, can anyone help me figure out how to use OpenAI and Anthropic keys to connect to Clay? And also explain how tokens work between them and Clay? I normally default to Claygent, but that's because I could never figure out how to link them to Clay and understand their related credits appropriately. I want to use them to help with cold email copywriting.
To connect your OpenAI or Anthropic API keys to Clay:
Credit usage: When you use your own API keys, you're charged by OpenAI/Anthropic directly based on their token pricing—not Clay credits. [3] This typically reduces costs compared to using Clay's managed account.
For cold email copywriting, you can now use "Use AI" instead of Claygent since you don't need web research—just select the appropriate OpenAI or Claude model for generating email copy from your table data.
If you need further help, click Talk to a person to request human assistance.
If you still need help with connecting your API keys or understanding token usage, I’m here to assist. Would you like to provide more details about what you’re trying to achieve or any specific questions you have?
Hi - Dylan D. You can definitely do this here’s the exact method that works Go to Clay settings integrations AI providers then connect your OpenAI or Anthropic account by pasting your API key after that when creating an AI column select your connected provider instead of Claygent once linked Clay will stop using your Clay credits for AI actions and instead use your OpenAI or Anthropic balance based on token usage tokens are just text units and you’re billed depending on how much text your prompt and response contain If you don’t connect any key Claygent will continue using your Clay credits. Try this method it works perfectly let me know once its set up or if you face any issues while connecting.
To connect your OpenAI and Anthropic API keys to Clay:
Use the "Use AI" enrichment (this consolidates all AI models in one place) [1]
Select your desired Model (GPT, Claude, or Gemini) from the dropdown
Click the Account dropdown and select "+ Add account" to add your API key
Credit usage: When you use your own API keys, you're charged by OpenAI/Anthropic directly based on their token pricing—not Clay credits. [2] This can reduce costs depending on your usage. When using personal API keys, price breakdowns won't appear in the Clay UI, so you'll need to monitor usage manually.
For cold email copywriting, the "Use AI" enrichment is perfect since you don't need web research—just select the appropriate OpenAI or Claude model for generating email copy from your table data.
Are you planning to use specific OpenAI or Claude models for your cold email copywriting, or would you like guidance on which models work best for this use case?
