Understanding the Auto-Update Feature: Daily News & Job Alerts

hi there - I'd like to better understand the auto-update feature. I would like to:

Run a daily pulse on news, monitor job changes, and job openings on a list of accounts
I want to send only new changes to those columns to a slack channel (or elsewhere)

If I have the news / job changes & job openings columns set to auto update how often will these be checked? how do i set that "schedule"? if that schedule is not configurable how can i found out how often certain datasources are updated?
my plan is to only send the slack alert if the respective columns last updated date is between 1 day ago & now - shoudl that wokrk?
