How to Check for Duplicate Leads in Clay Workbooks

·
·

Hi, when creating a new lead list in Clay, I'd like to check if that lead is not already in any of the workbooks (all tables across Clay). How can I do this? An idea I have is to create one master list with just LinkedIn URLs of leads and then using that master list for filtering out leads that are in that list. But then I'd have to make that list (currently I have around 20+ tables, will take a bit) and I will have to update that list every time a new lead list is created. Is there a work around for this?

Currently, Clay doesn't have a built-in feature to automatically check for duplicate leads across all workbooks. However, we can suggest a more efficient approach than creating a master list: 1. Use the "Lookup Row with Google Sheets" feature to create a centralized database of your leads. 2. When creating a new lead list, use this Google Sheet as a reference to check for duplicates. 3. You can use the "Contact LinkedIn URL" as a unique identifier for each lead. This method allows you to maintain a single source of truth without manually updating multiple tables. It's more efficient and reduces the risk of overlooking duplicates. Is this approach something you'd like to explore further? Or do you have any specific concerns about implementing this method?

Using that master lead list to filter out leads that are present in the master list?

Yes, you can filter out leads already present in a master lead list when creating a new lead list in Clay. Here's how: 1. Use the "Lookup Single Row in Other Table" or "Lookup Multiple Rows in Other Table" feature to check if leads exist in your master list. 2. Then, use the "Filter List of Objects" action to remove duplicates. Set the filter field to the lookup result and filter mode to exclude matches. This approach allows you to create new lead lists while avoiding duplicates from your master list. For a detailed walkthrough, check out our video tutorial on using the Lookup feature.

Hey Matiss, thanks for reaching out! Yeah to answer you first question, if you're on an Explorer+ plan you can exclude people from searches from within the people search. This can be done using the image below as a reference. To answer your second question, creating a master list to check against is a great idea! You can do so using our write to other table feature which allows you to send data from one table into another. Essentially you'd write all of the linkedin URL's from all 20 tables into some sort of master list, then you can dedupe this table and use it as a reference check moving forward. :) Hope this helps! Let me know how I can assist and if theres anything else I can help with. :)
