Assign Sequential Values Based on Unique ID Occurrences in Excel

·
·

Hi how do I assign a value of 1 for the first time an value shows in a row and then 2 for the second time and so on? I believe I need to create a UniqueID and then do a Lookup but I can't get the formula to work. This is the prompt that I'm trying to get it to give me a value of 1 or 2 or 3 and so on: Only run if [# UniqueID] is not empty, then return a number label depending on which number of occurrences any of the 'UniqueID' fields from the following array [Lookup Multiple Rows in Other Table] match [# UniqueID] For example, if the first value of "UniquelD" you find from the array is true, then return 1, if it's the second value then return 2 and so on Otherwise return 2 This is the table: https://app.clay.com/workspaces/305356/workbooks/wb_2G4aBZV3x9eA/tables/t_MJMFkKWNJdXx/views/gv_angpN9DhSZyv I"ve had some help with this before and this is the video that I'm following but just isn't working https://www.loom.com/share/920802d76974451bb84ad617acc764c4?sid=c484d64b-5be5-49ae-b60e-fb4ae15b205d

Thanks Bo (. But how do I get this to work If I'm not adding new data to the sheet and just want to give a record position for the first time a value appears, the second time and so on ? It looks like this video and prompt only works for when you are adding new values then the record position updates.

I wont be adding new rows and simply want to add a number for the first time something appears and then the second and so on.

Hey David, you will want to use the record position formula shown in the video Bo sent above. This will create a record position for the first instance of a number, second instance, and so on. This formula will work regardless of whether you have new values or existing data in your table. Feel free to try this formula and let me know if you have any other questions!

It seems like there might be an issue with the prompting. I’d be happy to check it out for you! Could you send me the table URL, David? I’ll take a look and see what’s going on. 😊
