Hi team, somehow imports are not working on my clay and I am getting this error whenever I try to import into a table.
Without seeing the specific error message, I can help you with one of the most common import errors - the "failed to parse body" error. This typically occurs when there's an issue with data formatting. Here are the main things to check:1. Make sure all text strings are enclosed in double quotes 2. Remove any extra commas at the end of entries 3. Check that numbers are not in quotes (unless they have trailing zeros) 4. Look for any hidden characters or extra spaces 5. Verify proper syntax with colons and bracketsYou can validate your data format using a JSON validator like JSONLint to spot and fix any formatting issues. If you need more specific help, please share the exact error message you're seeing. I tried multiple times and still the same error
Let me help you troubleshoot the import error. Here are the most common reasons for persistent import failures:1. Check your data formatting: • Ensure all text strings have double quotes • Remove any extra commas between entries • Look for hidden characters or extra spaces • Check for proper syntax with colons and brackets 2. Follow the correct import process: • Navigate to the Source panel • For existing tables: Click Actions > Import • Upload your file by clicking Browse Files or drag and drop • Properly match your CSV columns to Clay table fieldsIf you're still experiencing issues after checking these points, please share the specific error message you're seeing so we can provide more targeted assistance. Looks like you're still looking for help. We're escalating this over to our support team and someone should be in touch soon. In the meantime, feel free to include any other information that may be helpful in solving your issue!
There are no errors, but the count doesn't seem to increase on my table, somehow indicating that import didn't even happen
aditya - Do you mind sending the link to the table so we can take a look? https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/1171717996/ac7729f84b426e1d0358af02/image.png?expires=1733949000&signature=0ca99b66bed596b0da3f0813400cdb3972df24935d90215379004f34850d41b3&req=dSEgF85%2FmohWX%2FMW1HO4zYTywSj1Ap4W2BKsam%2FhVPuf8w%3D%3D%0A
That's because there was most of all a lot of duplicates. You can see it from the table history :) https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1293578016/86b46547f51ad56da777a7d8ec9f/CleanShot+2024-12-11+at+_29I67wbcau%402x.png?expires=1733949900&signature=1fe001e4f3409729ab45104fa35b3ad9682d0b198ad0897c08dc7ab7b312c6d6&req=dSIuFcx5lYFeX%2FMW1HO4zTofHUTDebf8NUGwFQs477lVJu9voqpguJdDsGM4%0AxSOj%0A
But when I am importing I am doing exclude from current table, in that case why are there dups
Hey! Let me clear up the duplication situation - it's actually working as designed. Here's what's happening: 1. The exclusion only kicks in after the whole search finishes, not while it's searching 2. Since you've got multiple sources running, they all need to complete before the deduplication happens 3. That's why you might see some overlap in the results initially If you want a totally fresh start without any duplicates, creating a new table would be your best bet. But I'm happy to take a closer look if you want to send over a Loom video of what you're seeing when you're doing the search What would be most helpful for you right now? 😊
Can we keep using the same source for importing data? Also you mentioned "The exclusion only kicks in after the whole search finishes, not while it's searching" Is this the search in find companies dialog, am I supposed to wait before clicking import to make sure excluded once are added?
Yes you can use the same source by simply going in the edit section It should look like this: https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1293695214/bc44dd98d28a0618b8589de8c32f/f436c6de-b8c3-4066-be32-da40943db5a0?expires=1733955300&signature=c95b1b5f837a107eb767f2f2f8ec275c88489977a9cc3cf75dc3567d2405ee38&req=dSIuFc93mINeXfMW1HO4zRtKf6%2Bin9JOAZtG0IqZl1CcnF8cqRX1Oa3R1Qfx%0AcChX%0A
In this case it'll be (edit) not update
But for the search, it's once you say save it to the table that is actually processing! :)
So I cannot really go beyond 1000 results from a source. Like cannot get more results from a source?
Also if the exclusion happens post import, then it will never work, since my table is already 2000 records, and I will always keep running into these duplicates if I keep downloading top 1000 rows from a source, since I have already downloaded those.
No because that is your plan's limit! :) You can see more here https://www.clay.com/pricing
What does exclusion really mean then, since If I say add 1000 rows excluding table x, it should still add 1000 records excluding the once in the table currently. The feature currently is loading none, and saying there are dups, what is "exclusion" feature then for??
Hey! Let me break this down for you to make the exclusion feature super clear: 1. The exclusion feature actually works like this: - If you have 50k total results - And you exclude 5k records - You'll still get fresh results from the remaining 45k pool 2. In your specific case: - You've already hit your 1000 record plan limit in this table - That's what's actually blocking you, not the exclusion feature - The error you're seeing is because of the plan limit, not duplicate records 3. Here's what you can do to work around this: - Create separate tables for each 1000-record search - This lets you keep pulling fresh results while staying within your plan limits Side note: If you need more records per table, you can check out our other plans at clay.com/pricing
If I do a fresh tables y, can import 1000 records excluded from table x in my current plan?
Right - But the exclude option is only available on Explorer or Pro plan! :) https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/w28k1kwz/1293722588/adffa87a92d1ed4d3165cba486d4/CleanShot+2024-12-11+at+_43guyqNV7v%402x.png?expires=1733957100&signature=a0c239197d63a0ad9a7510d10f8225ef05d1e94eae300ed99edaba8ab73f8d02&req=dSIuFc58n4RXUfMW1HO4zeL0s97TIhjHfu1XoNvCb%2Bd9l7qGJaZhhhF%2F6ttv%0Ap7Ea%0A
And 1000 limits is on the free trial, you have a 5000 limit in your case!
Ok So exclusion as a feature only works for pro/explorer, and not on starter. That is why I am running into this, exclusion not really happening even if i am trying
I do, however, see that it's set in your table, which was pre-upgrade most likely. Those would technically still be working, but not for net new searches!
Hey there - just wanted to check in here to see if you needed anything else! Feel free to reply back here if you do.
