Hi guys, I'm on tier2 with my OpenAI API but still can't use the API to access and search external links/the web. Has anyone got any advice?

OpenAI's API cannot access live data from the internet, regardless of your tier level. It can only reference data that was included in its training. For accessing and searching external links or web data in Clay, you should use Claygent instead. Claygent is Clay's AI web scraper that enables real-time data retrieval from the internet. While Claygent does require an appropriate OpenAI API access level with sufficient token per minute (TPM) rates, the Tier 2 requirement is about processing capacity, not web access capability. If you need to search or scrape data from websites, Claygent is the right tool for this purpose rather than trying to use the OpenAI API directly.

That's not true. I have had it working in the past in a previous job. Are you just saying this so people have to buy more credits? πŸ‘€

See attached proof of the OpenAPI AI on Tier2 accessing the web. Your automated responses need to be trained to provide genuine help not push customers into purchasing more credits they don't need.

I understand your confusion, but there's an important distinction to make. OpenAI's API itself cannot access live data from the internet - it can only reference data it was trained on. What you're likely looking for in Clay is our Claygent feature - our AI web scraper that enables real-time data retrieval from websites. This tool requires an OpenAI API key with sufficient tokens per minute (TPM), which is why Tier 2 is recommended. For web scraping in Clay, you should use Claygent rather than trying to use the OpenAI API directly. This isn't about purchasing more credits, but about using the right tool for web access functionality. If you need more specific help with your use case, please share more details about what you're trying to accomplish.
