Understanding Google Sheets Lookup Function Options

The Google Sheets Lookup function does not have the option of (Contains / Equals), so which one is it?

I believe it automatically does equals. Is there any way to do contains for a gsheets lookup?

Great question, Jeremy! I'll check this out for you, because their API docs don't specify it but chatGPT said this for now: The Google Sheets API itself does not provide direct functionality for "contains" or "exact match" filtering... They will simply return a range of cells or values from the spreadsheet as requested (based on the input restrictions). It does seem like it's mainly an equals statement though.
