For me, Iād say my engineering depth is around 5ā6/10. Iām not a full software engineer, but Iām comfortable building workflows, automations, and lightweight tools that support sales and GTM teams.
I think itās reasonable to expect GTM engineers to have both sales/marketing understanding and some technical ability. However, expecting someone to build large custom applications fully from scratch without AI or engineering support is usually unrealistic. The real value of a GTM engineer is connecting business problems with practical technical solutions, not replacing a full-time software engineer.
