Maximize Outbound Marketing with Trend Awareness and Strategic News

This is usually for my newsletter readers ONLY but I decided to share this in public Hope it can be helpfull to get higher response NEWS-LED OUTBOUND Think about it. Everyone is interested in what's new. TV, magazines, and news outlets constantly talk about trends. Outbound is about sending messages that resonate with your audience by focusing on high-awareness topics. Some outbound campaigns work, others don’t, because prospects only reply when you address problems they are highly aware of and experiencing right now. Trends and topics are the most powerful in outbound because they’re the best way to address what your target audience is already thinking about. The key is:

  • Getting relevant news at scale

  • Linking your product/solution to the news

For example: Black Friday is coming up. If you sell email marketing services, you can highlight a problem 100% of your market is aware of, then offer a meeting or a lead magnet (like a Black Friday checklist). After thinking deeply about news, I realized there are only three kinds:

  1. 1.

    Periodic

  2. 2.

    Recurring

  3. 3.

    Once-in-a-lifetime

Here’s how to use these with Clay: 1) Periodic news happens once or twice a year. These are useful, and you should have a solid plan in place for them. This is the Black Friday example. If I sold email marketing to e-commerce businesses, I’d have a list of every e-commerce company in my TAM, and I’d reach out at least 3 times with different value propositions and lead magnets. Every industry has its own periodic events. For example, if you sell to restaurants:

  • Christmas staffing shortages

  • Fewer customers in summer

  • High energy costs in winter

2) Recurring news is my favorite because you can automate your playbook around it once you find the system. These aren’t market-wide, but company-specific. For example, if you target startups, you can set up Google News with keywords like "Series A" or "startup." Turn this into an RSS feed and use Clay to automatically reach decision-makers when they raise money. This is just one example—the real value is applying it to your industry. For instance, if you sell influencer marketing services in the eco-friendly niche, you could gather all news about brands launching sustainable product lines at scale. The goal is to get enough daily news so you have a steady flow of leads to prospect. 3) Once-in-a-lifetime news is rare but powerful. These are market-wide events that cause massive disruption, like legislative changes that require businesses to adopt new technology.
