Is 24GB RAM Enough for Mac Users? Seeking Insights on Memory Usage

·
·

Looking to swap out my macbook because I need more RAM, I was thinking that 24GB would be sufficient but then we looked at how much my partners Mac Pro M4 was using and he was at 29GB yesterday. Curious if any Mac users on here could shed any light on how much memory they’re using on any given day? Actively working in multiple large tables, a lot of chrome usage (I hoard tabs, I know it’s an issue but it’s not going away over night) and LinkedIn tabs open at any given time, which seem to be using a ton of memory when active all of a sudden. I’m second guessing if 24GB will be enough now. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!!

Multi-day chrome sessions is usually a bad choice, as each tab is its own CPU process and each process can take anywhere to a max limit of ~2GB and then there might be memory leaks etc that will just take all the mem eventually here is a scrot of my system with 6 chrome tabs open :

in the screenshot above, average tab takes around 200mb (age of the tab is < 1 hour) so with 24GB mem 20 / .2 would help you hold like 40-50 tabs for a week or so is my guess.
