Understanding De-duplication Limitations for Numeric Data

Does de-duplication NOT work on numeric data? What's the logic / design philosophy behind that?

De-duplication works on numeric data. Our deduplication identifies duplicates based on exact string matches, which applies to all data types including numbers. [1]
Auto-dedupe excludes blank cells and cells with more than 200 characters from the process, but numeric values are processed normally. [2] Your screenshot shows the "id" column selected for deduplication, which should work correctly with those numeric values.
